Cabbage is an annual vegetable crop known for its green biennial leaves. They are high in phytonutrients. Fresh dark green leaves are the most nutritious as they are low in fat and calories. Cabbage is also a good source of antioxidants, vitamin C, minerals and vitamin K.
There are few varieties of cabbage, the round summer cabbage, the pointed summer cabbage, autumn and winter cabbages, savoy cabbages, spring cabbages and red cabbages. They may be different but they are all grown the same way. Cabbage is usually grown in temperate regions in Australia. They thrive in cool weather.
When buying cabbage look for a solid cabbage which is heavy for its size. Leaves should be crisp and compact.
