Onions are common ingredients used in various dishes not just in Australia, but around the world. There are many varieties grown in Australia, the red, brown, yellow and white. Each variation has its unique flavor, and today onions are widely used as a delicious ingredient in many dishes.

Onions add a lot of  flavor to dishes but they also contain many nutrients such as Vitamin C, minerals, dietary fibre and folate. Onions have no fat. And when it comes to choosing good quality onions, look for well shaped firm ones with papery skin.

Onions of course should be kept in a cool dry place. To minimize those tears while peeling onions, cut them in half and hold by the root to cut.  Try rubbing your hand on the metal sink to reduce the onion smell on your hands before washing.
