This round and slightly egg shaped fruit are lychees that were first brought to Australia in 1880’s by Chinese goldminers. Lychees are native to China and have a sweet, white flesh.
Lychees peak season are from December to January so they are not available throughout the year. They also contain Vitamin C and dietary fiber.
Lychees are also used as an additional ingredient to salads and savory dishes. When on your next trip to Your Local Green Grocer, choose firm lychees with no splits on the skin.
