Brussels Sprouts

Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts looks like  miniature cabbages because of their size however there the resemblance ends as they have a very distinctive flavour not at all like the cabbage.  When cooked correctly, they have  delicate  nutty flavour. Try not to overcook Brussels sprouts.  A good tip is to put a small cut in the base of the vegetable just prior to cooking.

The best advice when buying Brussels  sprouts is to look for firm sprouts with bright green heads.  They will keep in your refrigerator for  over a week  They can also be blanched and deep frozen.

Brussels sprouts have a lot of nutrients to offer, such as vitamin C, folate, vitamin E, iron and beta carotene.
